42. The Turkey Creek Tract

TURKEY CREEK TRACT in Jefferson County consists of 462 acres of mixed pine and hardwood forest along Turkey Creek. The tract is managed as a Nature Preserve and host’s passive recreational opportunities that include hiking and nature photography. The tract is cooperatively managed with the Freshwater Land Trust, the City of Pinson and local citizens groups supporting the conservation of the Turkey Creek Watershed.
Turkey Creek Nature Preserve was established through a partnership between Alabama’s Forever Wild Program and the Freshwater Land Trustand is co-managed by the Southern Environmental Center. In late 2008, an agreement was reached with Southern Environmental Center to setup an environmental education center at the entrance to the preserve. The SEC opened this facility on May 9, 2009 and provides school groups, scout troops, and others with hands-on educational programming For additional information, call the Turkey Creek office at 205-680-4116.
The Turkey Creek Nature Preserve is open daily except for special events, education programs, maintenance, research, or other reasons deemed acceptable for closure. Preserve hours change seasonally and are posted on gates and kiosks. Occasionally the Preserve will be closed for special events.
