THE COLDWATER MOUNTAIN (Dedicated by Forever Wild Resolution as the Doug Ghee Nature Preserve and Recreation Area) TRACT in Calhoun County consists of 4,083 acres of a high, pine-hardwood covered mountain along Interstate Highway 20 that casts its shadow onto portions of Anniston and Oxford. The tract secures a large portion of the local watershed for Coldwater Spring, a unique ecological environment and source of drinking water for local municipalities.

As of June 1st, 2012 a new public access road, trailhead and 11 miles of recreational trail were opened for mountain biking and hiking. The 11 miles consist of a one-mile, easy loop is for less experienced riders or those who prefer shorter distance riding or hiking and a 10-mile loop that is more difficult for the more experienced rider and those wanting a longer hike.
These 11 miles of trail is the first phase of a proposed 50 miles of trail to be constructed over the next three years. This trailhead and trail construction project is a result of cooperative efforts from the Forever Wild Land Trust, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) State Lands Division, Anniston Water Works and Sewer Board, Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA), Northeast Alabama Bicycle Association, International Mountain Biking Association-Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (IMBA-SORBA), Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT), Alabama Power Company and the City of Anniston.
